Our Shoe History

Fashion, Shoes, Shopping, by Ivan S.

They have been around as long as the human civilization existed. They were used by our early ancestors for protection against the rough grounds that they travel daily. During that time their only purpose was protection for the feet.

Different cultures had their own designs and purpose for using shoes. The Mesopotamians used soft leather shoes similar to moccasin for comfort. In Egypt your social status was determined by the shoes on your feet. The Japanese had their culture of looking for the best piece of block wood and carving them into wooden shoes about three inches high. The Chinese may have one of the strangest uses for shoes. Chinese women used to wear small shoes in order to bind their feet and deform them to remain small. They believed that it would make their women faithful because they will have a hard time traveling alone!

Nowadays we don’t have to travel the corners of the globe to get a glimpse of the different designs. There are an abundant number of shoes for sale from local shoe stores that offer a variety of designs of footwear from different countries.
